August is the “Buwan ng Wika” here in the Philippines. It is only celebrated in schools, in every last week of August by having a whole week or a whole day program. Buwan ng Wika highlights the importance of Filipino Language.
The program is composed of harana (serenade) using pure Tagalog songs, balagtasan, sabayang pagbigkas (speech choir), malikhaing pagbasa, comical skit, essay writing and poster making contest.
There are also contest for creative booth. Booths should only be made of native props.
The last week of August will start tomorrow, students are busy doing their part for the program, especially the high school students. Usually, the students performance for the Buwan ng Wika is graded and is under the Subject Filipino.
